The Coghinas 1 pipeline is now fully operational , thanks to work carried out by the Sardinian Water Authority (ENAS) on the first section, which has been inactive for over 15 years. These works are valued at a total of €85 million , €66 million of which are financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and €19 million from regional funds. They will bring numerous benefits in terms of the functionality of the Coghinas system, significantly reducing leaks, and minimizing disruptions in the event of repairs .

The work carried out on the first 15 kilometers, 7 on Coghinas 1 and 8 on Coghinas 2, are also particularly important because they are preparatory to the continuation of the interventions on the entire system.

Public Works Councilor Antonio Piu presented the project in front of the aqueduct on Via Vivaldi, in the industrial area of Porto Torres, in the presence of the local mayors, including Giuseppe Mascia, Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Sassari, and the mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulas.

"Starting today, we have a pipeline that is back working at full capacity after 15 years in which the first section was deactivated because it had reached the end of its life," explained Councilor Piu. "This is a fundamental step that, in addition to making the pipeline fully operational, represents a significant first step in the overall redevelopment of an infrastructure that is over 50 years old and has clearly shown its age ." We are restoring the functionality of the first section of Coghinas 1, which runs from Santa Maria Coghinas to Punta Tramontana, where it interconnects with Coghinas 2. This interconnection, he emphasizes, is a crucial point because, starting today, whenever a malfunction occurs that requires an interruption in the water supply to the Coghinas 1 pipeline, users will be served by Coghinas 2. This allows for greater system resilience, thanks also to the replacement or rehabilitation, using relining techniques, of 15 kilometers of pipeline carried out during the work, the repair of 60 manholes on Coghinas 1 and 15 on Coghinas 2, and the introduction of over 100 joints to reinforce sensitive points where leaks can occur.
