Sardinia is preparing to face the second wave of intense heat of the season , with temperatures rising sharply starting from Saturday 7 June . This was communicated by the decentralized functional center of the Civil Protection , which today issued a warning of adverse weather conditions , valid from 10 tomorrow to 18 on Sunday 8 June.
According to forecasts, temperatures will reach locally very high values. On Sunday, values could reach 40 degrees in the internal areas, but already tomorrow in Campidano , in the lower Oristano and in the Ottana plain the values will reach 37-38 degrees . The intense heat will continue also on Sunday, with high values especially in the south of the island. As documented by Arpas, the situation at European level sees a combination of a cold trough of polar origin - located between Iceland and Scandinavia - and an African high pressure field that extends towards central-eastern Europe. This baric pattern is pushing masses of hot air from North Africa towards the central Mediterranean, causing a marked rise in temperatures in central-southern Italy and Sardinia in particular.
As explained by the Air Force Weather Office at the Decimomannu base, "due to the Azores anticyclone, with poor circulation and stagnant air, temperatures have already risen to 29-30 degrees in Cagliari." The peak is expected for Sunday , then "somewhat colder air will enter, due to winds from the north-west quadrants ( mistral , ed.) even if not particularly intense. This should dampen this perceived mugginess by lowering temperatures.
