A violent head-on collision between a van and a truck in Olbia leaves one dead.
The driver of the smaller vehicle was the one who got the worst of it, unfortunately the attempts of the 118 were in vain.A fatal accident occurred this morning at the entrance to Olbia , near the industrial area. A van and a semi-trailer were involved.
For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles violently collided. The impact was particularly severe, with the van's cab sustaining extensive damage, becoming wedged against the side of the heavy vehicle.
Firefighters arrived on the scene using shears and hydraulic spreaders to cut through the van's twisted bodywork and free the driver, who was trapped inside.
Despite the emergency medical services and desperate attempts at resuscitation by the 118 emergency medical staff, who also intervened with the assistance of the air ambulance, unfortunately there was nothing that could be done for the driver of the van.
Carabinieri and local police were also present at the scene of the accident to conduct investigations necessary to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident and to manage the traffic, which was severely slowed and closed to allow for rescue operations and the subsequent removal of the injured vehicles.
