A veterinarian and a lawyer: this is the new team appointed by the Municipality of Cagliari for the role of Animal Protection Guarantor . After the examination of the candidates' CVs by the examining commission, two figures with complementary skills were identified, chosen to guarantee a comprehensive approach to animal protection in urban areas.

Doctor Francesca Alba, veterinarian, has been appointed Guarantor for the Protection of Animals, while lawyer Francesca Maria Cogoni has been designated as technical collaborator with legal-juridical skills. The choice arises from the desire to combine veterinary and ethological knowledge with a solid legal preparation in the field of animal rights and welfare.

The selection process was carried out regularly: 8 applications were received by the deadline. With management decision no. 1356 of 3 March 2025, the commission was appointed, composed of managers of the Municipality of Cagliari and the ASL, in addition to the manager of the Local Police. The commission meetings were held on 2 and 7 April, during which the evaluation criteria were established and the profiles of the candidates were analyzed.

The mandate will last three years, renewable only once and both tasks will be carried out completely free of charge. The Guarantor will be assigned an operational station at the offices of the former Vetreria, headquarters of the Department of Urban Ecology in via Ampere n. 2. The creation of the team represents an important step forward for the city, which aims to better protect animals and their rights.
