A series of power outages has prompted the Region to tell Enel: "Serious disruption for residents and businesses, urgent action is needed."

The Regional Department of Industry expresses "concern" over the repeated power outages that have affected numerous municipalities in Sardinia in recent weeks. These power outages, which were also the subject of a meeting between ANCI Sardegna, the heads of E-Distribuzione, the Prefectures, and the Regional Civil Protection Department , often prolonged and sudden, have caused serious disruption to residents and businesses, already severely impacted by the exceptional heatwaves currently affecting the region.

The department also takes stock of the affected municipalities, namely Cagliari, Assemini, Uta, Quartucciu, Sestu, Capoterra, Quartu Sant'Elena, Nuoro, Sinnai, Settimo, Olbia , to which must however be added «several other local areas, where malfunctions in the electricity grid have caused critical situations, with blocks in production activities, dysfunctions in essential services and difficulties for families, especially those with vulnerable people» .

The statement continues: "The Region is aware that the particular environmental conditions are causing high peaks in electricity demand, despite the significant investments that Enel and Terna are making in Sardinia to strengthen and modernize electricity infrastructure. These investments are essential to ensuring the security and resilience of the regional energy system. However, the high frequency and severity of recent events require urgent consideration and immediate action."

"We therefore expect Enel, as the distribution network operator, to develop a structural intervention plan that ensures the definitive resolution of the critical issues, preventing the recurrence of situations that compromise the quality of life of residents and the competitiveness of the regional production system. This plan will also be based on a detailed overview of the causes of the blackouts, the corrective measures already adopted, and those planned in the short term, with particular reference to the most affected areas," stated Councilor Emanuele Cani. He added: "The Region remains available to collaborate constructively, in the knowledge that only through constant dialogue and shared planning will it be possible to guarantee an electricity service that meets Sardinia's needs."
