In the department where life fights its most delicate battles every day, this morning the white of the equipment gave way to the purple of the balloons and streamers.

At the Duilio Casula Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, World Prematurity Day turned into a small celebration: a moment designed to remind us that even those born too soon are entitled to their rituals of joy, caresses, smiles, and tiny handmade outfits.

On November 17th, a symbolic date for families of premature babies, the ward opened its doors to mothers and fathers for a special meeting organized by doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers of the NICU.

Sweets, purple decorations, and a shared atmosphere greeted the parents of the "feather babies," while the little patients wore dresses donated by volunteers from the Cuore di Maglia association.

"Every year, 15 million premature babies are born worldwide and require special care," explained Professor Vassilios Fanos, director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

"This is why TINs exist: places where these little warriors are supported in every need, with the daily commitment of professionals and the strength of their parents."

Prematurity is often a long and complex journey, marked by fragility but also by deep bonds. "During these months, a genuine relationship is created between healthcare workers, babies, and families," added neonatologist Elena Curridori. "Our support goes beyond treatment: it's human support, step by step."
