A problem that doesn't stop: the abandonment of waste in Quartucciu

"The Municipality collects, the uncivilized throws away" . With these incisive words, the Environment Councilor Walter Caredda expresses his dismay at the persistent incivility that afflicts Quartucciu.
The city, which has long been struggling with serious problems related to waste abandonment, is now facing an increasingly critical situation: even the Is Cungiaus canal has been transformed into a real open-air landfill. In recent days, about ten bags of abandoned waste were removed from the bank thanks to the joint intervention of the municipal police and the municipal hygiene staff . However, to their great disappointment, the following day the same spot was once again invaded by new blue bags.
The inspections conducted by the police and the personnel in charge did not allow to identify any useful clues to trace the offenders. "This episode not only highlights a serious crisis of civilization, but weighs heavily on public resources, which are taken away from essential services to deal with cleaning and waste management", underlines Caredda.
The situation is further complicated by the lack of surveillance cameras, a fundamental tool for deterring and identifying those who abandon waste . "It is essential that the community collaborates to preserve the beauty and healthiness of our environment," adds Caredda. "Avoiding turning the streets into illegal dumps is a task that must involve everyone. Every citizen can contribute by keeping the area clean and reporting those who abandon waste." The appeal of the councilor is clear: without a collective commitment, but also without adequate tools to control the territory, the fight against environmental incivility will remain a difficult and, in the long term, unproductive battle.
