A large pine tree fell in Castiadas, and fortunately there were no serious injuries. The tree, weakened by heavy rain and wind, ended up on a parked car with no one inside. The accident occurred in Camisa, along provincial road 20 (in front of the Camisa bar). The Castiadas Carabinieri patrol immediately responded to the scene, and then the San Vito firefighters removed the tree and cleared the roadway.
"The continuous rainfall," explained Castiadas Mayor Eugenio Murgioni, "has made the ground unstable and increased the risk to trees. The sidewalk has been cordoned off and the root removed to ensure pedestrian safety." The mayor therefore recommended "not parking near unsafe trees or at-risk areas, especially during heavy rain or strong winds. The Municipality, through its technical office and the municipal police, is constantly monitoring the situation and the danger status of trees in the area."
Again due to bad weather, trees and several telephone poles fell on January 10th. Now, the large pine tree fell on top of a parked car. The municipality will request a state of natural disaster.
