A picnic in Monte Claro Park turned into a rush to the emergency room and then to the emergency room. Silvia Saba recounted the incident, denouncing the poor maintenance of one of Cagliari's most popular green spaces on social media, calling for urgent action to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

"It's been quite sad over the years to witness the degradation of Monte Claro Park, one of Cagliari's most beautiful green spaces, progressively more abandoned and with increasingly sporadic maintenance, but I never thought I'd risk (literally) my neck ," Saba writes in his post.

The incident, according to her account, dates back to Saturday, October 17 , when she and her husband had decided to spend a few hours outdoors for lunch. The couple spotted two wooden tables partially covered by a gazebo, in the area near the restrooms, sports facilities, and children's playground.

"Since half the table was in the sun, we both sat on the same side," he says. A seemingly innocuous choice, but behind it, he claims, lay a problem they couldn't have known about: " Obviously, we couldn't have known that the supports that were supposed to hold the tables to the ground no longer exist ."

The table, the woman continues, " immediately tipped over backwards, falling on top of us ." While she suffered only minor injuries, the accident was more serious for her husband. " He hit his head on one of the gazebo posts, from which a piece of metal was protruding, poorly covered with tape, and was further crushed by the weight of the table ."

From there, the medical process began, first at the emergency medical service and then at the emergency room, where diagnostic tests were performed and stitches were applied. "We took home a concussion and a blunt force trauma to the chest," Saba reports, specifying that, fortunately, the consequences were not serious. Her husband was assigned three days of treatment. "Fortunately, nothing serious, but could we have done without it? Definitely," she observes, emphasizing that the episode could have had even more serious consequences.

The complaint concerns not only the accident, but also the management of maintenance and the need to verify the safety of the park's facilities. Saba reports that on Saturday he sent a certified email to the Metropolitan City of Cagliari , accompanied by photographs and medical reports, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

"I wonder why the Metropolitan City of Cagliari isn't responding, and I wonder if the area has been made safe... although I can imagine the response," he writes.

The concern is especially for the most vulnerable people who frequent the green area daily. " What if there was a child with us? Or an elderly, frail person?" the woman asks. Hence the plea: "Dear park managers, what are you waiting for to do at least basic maintenance? What if something irreparable happens?"
