From a traffic island to a public space dedicated to the community. The new green area on Isola Bianca was inaugurated today , a project implemented by the Port System Authority that transforms approximately 3,500 square meters of the port into a place designed for passengers, families, and residents. The new park is located along the Viale della Capitaneria di Porto (Coast Master's Office) and offers a safe and accessible play area, nestled in a landscape characterized by Mediterranean scrub, street furniture, and dedicated lighting. The goal is to create a welcoming space where children can play safely while caregivers and travelers rest in comfort. The area is equipped with benches, paved paths made of durable and sustainable materials, and a video surveillance system supported by port security personnel to ensure safety and prevent vandalism.

The project also includes a covered space of approximately 70 square meters that can accommodate a small restaurant, subject to a maritime state concession, as well as 15 parking spaces and a dedicated ramp access directly from the Harbour Master's Office promenade. The project is part of the Port System Authority's strategy to strengthen the relationship between the port and the city, making port areas increasingly integrated into the urban fabric. The goal is to enhance these spaces not only from an infrastructural perspective, but also from a social, economic, and urban planning perspective.

"With this project, we are giving the city a space that, from a simple traffic island, becomes a functional and livable place," said Domenico Bagalà, President of the Port System Authority. "The creation of a play area within the port area concretely embodies our vision of an open port, capable of engaging with the urban context and offering new opportunities for social interaction. Spaces for interaction between the port and the city are today a fundamental strategic lever because they improve the quality of the environment, create opportunities for the community, and make the port an integral part of the daily and cultural life of the area."
