The fall in the delivery room hypothesis: according to the family, the baby was born alive.Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
She would have had only a moment to face life, and her mother who had just given birth to her, and perhaps even her grandmother, present in the delivery room with them. Nicole was born alive, but died after a fall in the delivery room at the Monserrato Polyclinic, which her grandmother also witnessed. Upon leaving her mother's womb, she slipped from the hands of those who were supposed to help her in that first step toward existence as an individual. This version contradicts the birth certificate issued by the medical staff, which states that the baby was stillborn. Now the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office wants to shed full light on the tragedy and has ordered the exhumation of her little body, which has been resting in the cemetery of Borore, her parents' hometown, since September.
The pain
It's a tragic story, marked by a family's grief and many questions. Nicole, the first child of a couple from Borore, died on August 31st after giving birth at the Monserrato Polyclinic. Two different versions of the circumstances emerge: the one reported by the parents and the other, so far, based on medical records. According to the family, the baby was born alive. Then came the accident in the delivery room: the newborn slipped from the hands of the paramedics, hitting the floor violently. Her grandmother reportedly witnessed the scene. The father, convinced his daughter was born alive, even registered her at the Registry Office and then requested a death certificate. This contradicts the hospital certificate, which instead states Nicole was stillborn.
Grandma's story
The complaint was reportedly filed after the initial shock and following the grandmother's account, who reportedly found the courage to tell her daughter, who had not noticed anything, what she claimed had happened in the delivery room. Investigators are now focusing their attention on this reconstruction. The Cagliari Prosecutor's Office has placed the obstetrician and gynecologist under investigation. The alleged crimes involve fatal injuries and false certification of the baby's birth. The investigation will determine whether anyone was responsible and whether the allegations are substantiated. The family is being represented by the lawyer Annamaria Musio. The medical staff are being defended by Giuseppe Ledda and Gian Marco Concas. The incident began before the woman arrived at the Monserrato Polyclinic. The woman, feeling unwell, went to the Oristano hospital. There are no medical staff under investigation at that facility. The clinical picture revealed an infection, followed by a leak of amniotic fluid, linked to a tear in the membranes. The woman was transferred to the Monserrato Polyclinic, where the decision was made to proceed with the delivery. To reconstruct what happened, the Prosecutor's Office has already seized the placenta and medical records. An autopsy has now been ordered on the little girl's body, which will require exhuming her body from the Borore cemetery. The order is expected to be issued on Monday.
