A new heatwave is coming to the island, raising alarm in hospitals and for workers.

The island is in the grip of its fifth heat wave of the year: today and tomorrow, with the strengthening of the North African anticyclone , temperatures will reach 45 degrees in some areas of the central part of the island, in the Oristano and Sulcis regions, and temperatures will be between 8 and 10 degrees above the seasonal average.

And the alarm is also raised for boiling seas, between 28 and 29 degrees, while the global sea temperature record recorded by Copernicus and the arrival of a strong El Niño are extending the alarm well beyond Sardinia.

Hospitals are on maximum alert, with family doctors calling for a stable plan for the elderly and chronically ill. But the extreme heat is now also affecting jobs: after the 48.4-degree heatwave in Orani on July 19, UIL and CISL unions are calling on the Region to establish a permanent protocol for shifts, breaks, and suspensions, because " no one should have to choose between their health and their paycheck ." Councilor Manca is open to new measures, but is calling on Rome for assistance with business compensation.
