A man was arrested in Sassari on charges of aggravated robbery. Last Wednesday, the Carabinieri responded to a call to 112 in Piazza Mercato , reporting a robber who had been stopped by several residents .
He had been stopped because, shortly before, in Piazza Azuni , he had violently grabbed a young woman to steal her bag . He attempted to flee and was caught by several people who had witnessed the scene . The man risked being lynched , but then the Carabinieri arrived and arrested him.
The robber had a lacerated wound on his leg, self-inflicted with a knife that was later found and seized. Shortly before, near the Moderno cinema, his face hidden by a surgical mask, he had attacked two other women, stealing a bag that was later recovered with the intervention of several members of the public.
The man was taken to Bancali prison by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine whether the same man is responsible for previous robberies carried out with the same modus operandi on the night of September 7th in the city center, again targeting young women, who were threatened with a knife or a glass bottle and stripped of their belongings . These incidents had caused particular social alarm, especially in the historic center.
