A man from Iglesias died due to illness while on board the Grimaldi Lines ferry “Corfù” , which departed from Cagliari and was headed for Civitavecchia, with a stopover in Arbatax.

The victim, a 70-year-old cancer patient , had a heart attack this morning while sailing with his family.

As soon as the emergency was reported to the ship's crew, the vessel, which was 26 miles off the coast, was initially diverted to Siniscola to allow medical personnel from an ambulance to board and provide first aid to the man.

Unfortunately, the rescue efforts proved futile. The Port Authority then diverted the ferry to Olbia's Isola Bianca port, where the man's body was disembarked, along with his wife and daughter, with whom he had traveled. The ship then immediately departed for Civitavecchia. The magistrate on duty has already ordered the body returned to the family.
