A man was caught last night setting a fire on private land in the Muravera countryside . The area has been hit by several fires in the past, making it a highly sensitive area.

The Carabinieri caught him red-handed during an extraordinary territorial control operation that also involved the municipalities of Castiadas and Villasimius.

The intervention of the Compagnia di San Vito soldiers allowed them to nip the man's actions in the bud, preventing him from starting the fire. He, a 77-year-old pensioner living in Cagliari, was fined €10,000 for violating forest fire regulations.

The checks, which included public places and cars, resulted in fines totaling over €6,000, including the seizure of one vehicle. Specifically, six fines totaling €600 were issued for failure to comply with the new regulations on electric scooters, which require mandatory insurance coverage.
