A fire spreads panic in Bacu Abis, a hamlet of Carbonia.

The flames reached the edge of the houses on Via dell'Argentiera, engulfing a reed bed. But, driven by the strong mistral wind, they raced along the crest of the hill: the entire town is threatened.

Residents are supporting the firefighters' work by using sprinklers to spray water on the blaze.

Meanwhile, groups of volunteers have rescued numerous dogs trapped inside country houses.

Also at work on site were Forestas, civil protection, local police, carabinieri and helicopters, including one from the Armed Forces.
