A large fire broke out this morning in the locality of Cuile Nuovo, in the Stintino area, along the road leading to Pazzona beach .

The fire spread quickly, fueled by high temperatures and wind. Dry vegetation and brushwood, which had invaded much of the uncultivated land in the Nurra area, were burning. The first calls to the fire department arrived before 11:00 a.m.

Vehicles and crews from Sassari and Porto Torres arrived on the scene. The flames are not far from several structures. The fire has created heavy smoke that has filled the air in much of the surrounding area.

Several residents have reported concerns about the persistent white cloud. These are likely land clearing operations, but they're being carried out in defiance of the municipal ordinance prohibiting the use of open flames, even on private property. The situation may have gotten out of hand.

Carabinieri, forest rangers, Barracelli, and a Forestry Corps helicopter from the Anela base were also on site. The Forestry Corps is coordinating the operation.
