12,000 euros are needed to bring the body of an emigrant back to Sestu . Luigi Carlo Pireddu was 67 years old and had moved to England two years ago. A story like too many others, of those who, even no longer young, have to pack their bags and seek their fortune far from their homeland. After a lifetime of work in Sardinia, he had followed a dream of greater economic stability and had chosen a location near Gloucester. Here Carlo, as everyone calls him, had certainly fulfilled this dream. In fact, he had found work as a worker in a tea packaging factory, and lived with his partner, of Romanian origin. Suddenly, last Thursday, all the dreams and hopes of the couple were shattered by a cardiac arrest that hit Pireddu in his home.

Now Pireddu's body is in the Royal Hospital in Gloucester, and it needs to get to Italy as soon as possible. Very soon she will be moved to a mortuary, where maintaining the place will cost between 250 and 300 euros a day.

For this reason, the family has started a fundraiser through the Gofundme website, which can be reached by typing the link https://gofund.me/dacb6e65 on your browser, or simply by searching the website for "funeral expenses" . "His mother is 97 years old, and would like to see him one last time," says his nephew, Andrea Pireddu, who organized the collection. More details of Luigi Carlo Pireddu's story tomorrow, in the paper edition of L'Unione Sarda
