He had fled in the autumn of 2021 to execute an end-of-sentence provision by the Court of Sassari, but his inaction ended Saturday night in Alghero .

Roberto Vacca , a 31-year-old multi-judge, was surprised by the carabinieri at the exit of a well-known night club on the Riviera del Corallo and arrested after a long chase .

The military , having identified the car used by an alleged supporter, whose position is now being examined by the authorities, positioned themselves in strategic points in the streets adjacent to the Barcelona seafront, "covering" every possible escape route. After just over an hour the sighting of the fugitive, who was walking along the road towards the beach and waiting for his supporter.

The carabinieri then rushed to the seafront , with the 31-year-old who attempted a desperate escape right towards the sea. The long run was interrupted on the shore, where the fugitive again tried to escape by diving into the water and continuing to swim .

However, the man was stopped thanks also to the intervention of the Port Authority of Alghero who, with the support of a patrol boat and a rubber dinghy , identified the fugitive, hidden in the black waters of the breakwater. Exhausted from swimming and in a state of hypothermia, the 31-year-old was then arrested .

The man, after checking his health conditions in the emergency room of the Alghero hospital, was then transferred to the Sassari prison , where he will remain for the next six years . The 31-year-old has to serve a definitive sentence for the attempted murder of a Senegalese street vendor who was shot in 2015 .

The important result achieved thanks to the meticulous investigative effort of the Carabinieri Station of Alghero, the Operational and Radiomobile Unit, the important operational support of the Santa Maria la Palma Station and the Port Authority of Alghero.
