A riot broke out last night at the Monastir reception center. Following the beating of a foreign national, who was seriously injured in an attack by a group of people from Sestu, migrants vandalized the facility and attacked law enforcement officers .

An explosive situation: a migrant center overcrowded beyond capacity, criminal activity in Monastir and neighboring towns, and self-imposed justice . A perfect mix to ignite the fuse, and the first to suffer the consequences are the officers and staff serving at the CAS.

"What we had predicted and communicated to the competent authorities is happening," Anip Italia Sicura reports. "The exasperation that had built up in the area has turned into violence. The news of the injury of a guest at the Center has triggered a violent riot, posing serious risks to the safety of law enforcement officers, cooperative workers, and the people present at the facility."

Flavio Tuzi of Anip Italia Sicura reiterates his request for a mobile device capable of monitoring the various centers in the area, to ensure deterrence and, in an emergency, easily reach the CAS . "Today we have concrete proof of how necessary it was. The area cannot be left unprotected and then intervene only when the situation has already deteriorated."

The union is now calling for action to restore order within the CAS and to prosecute those responsible for the devastation: "It is unacceptable that anyone would think that within a reception center it is permissible to use violence against people or destroy structures without consequences. In Italy, the rules apply to everyone. Those seeking protection must respect the laws of the host country. But repressing what has already happened is not enough. We must prevent tension from turning into a spiral of violence. This is why we are calling for increased
immediate checks in the municipalities bordering the CAS, with a visible, dynamic and
continuous police presence
. Citizens must be able to see the Mobile Units on the territory,
knowing that there is a device ready to intervene and concretely perceive the presence of the
State".

The presence of the State must also serve to "stop judicial reactions", because "the growing exasperation risks producing uncontrolled reactions, and the State must prevent citizens from replacing the police and the judiciary" .

Essentially, the call is for a greater law enforcement presence in Monastir and surrounding municipalities, the only way to stem this spiral of violence. "The state must be present inside and, above all, outside the CAS."
