At the Arena on Via Beethoven, it's not just a basketball game: it's a story of family, passion, and continuity. It's the story of Basket Quartu, competing in the MSP Open Gold championship. And one peculiarity makes this team unique: four fathers and four sons take the court together. The protagonists are fathers Marco Chessa, Arturas Gruodis, Andrea Pisanu, and Lanfranco Petronelli, and their respective sons Jordan, Martynas, Davide, and Luca. Eight players bound by a shared bond, both sporting and family, perfectly embodying the spirit of the Quartu club.
On the field
Jordan Chessa, 19, in his first season at Basket Quartu with his father Marco, recounts the thrill of this experience: "Playing with my dad is something special. For me, he's not just a teammate, he's my role model. Even criticism becomes a lesson; every practice is a life lesson. He instilled in me his passion for basketball since I was a child, and now it's part of our lives. It's a passion that binds us, unites us, and creates a unique connection on the court; he knows my every move without even looking at us. It's a bond that's hard to explain in words." Chessa explains how this family team came about almost by chance: "Personal choices, changes in clubs, old sporting bonds that intertwine to form a group where fathers and sons share the same locker room—a feeling I'm proud to experience."
The passion
Andrea Pisanu, coach and Davide's father, also emphasizes the human value of the experience: "I've been playing basketball since I was 9, and today, at almost 69, it's an integral part of my life. Passing this passion on to both my sons is a true honor. I played my first tournament with Davide when he was 16, and now that he's 39, the thrill of playing together is always unique and extraordinary, a tremendous satisfaction. Besides being a player, I'm the captain; when I have to decide who goes in, there's a rule: there's no favoritism on the court. They're teammates like anyone else, but sharing victories, sacrifices, and passion with them is something unique. And my son's success is even more beautiful than my own."
The story
The team is enjoying a high-level season: they're battling for first place in their group with the goal of reaching the playoffs in the best possible shape. This achievement would be further confirmation of the solidity of a group that has already proven its worth in recent years, winning two championships in the last four seasons. Basket Quartu is a historic local club: active since 1972, it is one of the symbolic clubs of local basketball. All the fathers have worn the Quartu jersey at different times in their careers, contributing to important chapters in the club's history. Today, years later, they return to the same court with their sons, creating a natural bridge between past and present. In a league where the average age varies greatly and where young players and veterans coexist, Basket Quartu has found its balance precisely through the strength of its group. A mix of experience, enthusiasm, and deep bonds that is driving the team to dream big.
