New alarm has been raised in the city of Porto Torres, where several reports have been received by law enforcement of individuals impersonating Carabinieri or police officers in an attempt to defraud citizens.

A resident reported receiving a phone call from a person falsely identifying himself as a member of the Carabinieri , who asked him to prepare money and valuables for later inspection.

The military advises citizens to be very careful and not to open the door to strangers, even if they claim to be members of the police force, and, in case of doubt, to contact 112 or the Carabinieri station on Via Antonelli .

Residents are also asked to inform their families, especially the elderly, so that they are aware of scams involving "fake carabiniere or police officers," an illegal system that is spreading throughout the city, where several scams involving illicit requests for bank transfers have been reported.
