A cluster of Covid-19 erupts within the Aou Surgical Clinic in Sassari. Positive (to the Delta variant) at the moment seven patients in the ward and one healthcare professional.

The outbreak was discovered in the night between Saturday and Sunday following a positive molecular swab on a patient who was due to undergo surgery this morning. Therefore, the Aou said, he was "immediately isolated".

Among the infected, four patients have already been transferred to the infectious disease facility, the other three remain isolated for now in single rooms in the Clinic because they are asymptomatic.

At the same time, the screening began: all the doctors, nurses and social health workers working in the surgical clinic were subjected to swabs, in all 65 people all with a third dose, and only one tested positive. The molecular analysis swab will be repeated every 48 hours for eight days. At the moment the ward remains active but no new hospitalizations are made.

"All the rules for the prevention of Covid are strictly observed in the ward. All patients access the facility with the Green pass and negative molecular swab. For visits, the regulations in force are followed and accessed only with the Green pass, and visitors respect the spacing and use of masks ", says the director of the Surgery Clinic, Alberto Porcu.

"The existence of these protocols makes it possible to identify this type of cluster and isolate them immediately - explains the strategic management -. These are necessary procedures, given the unpredictability of an airborne virus like this, which requires constant attention. The fact, then, that the swabs after hospitalization are carried out on patients, in particular those who have to undergo surgery, is an element of safety for patients and operators ".
