Mario Siffu, a 32-year-old from Porto Torres, a prisoner in Bancali prison, died on Tuesday afternoon, March 24, in a hospital bed after emergency surgery that failed to save his life.
He was admitted to the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari on the evening of March 23, after being transported to the emergency room. The operation took place during the night between Monday and Tuesday, after he was transferred to the intensive care unit.
Now the parents are demanding clarification on the cause of death. The young man had been complaining of severe abdominal pain for some time. The medical report indicates intestinal obstruction, a health problem that Siffu, a prisoner for petty theft, had been reporting for several months.
Lawyer Giuseppe Onorato reports that the victim's parents have requested an autopsy, a request that the Public Prosecutor's Office will have to decide on to determine whether any liability exists.
