He's already killed once. And, once freed, he tried again. Now comes the final confirmation: the Court of Cassation has convicted Bastiano Secci, a 58-year-old butcher from Irgoli , of attempted murder . Secci is the protagonist of a story that's frightening in its brutality and disturbing continuity.
In 2023, a few years after completing his 16-year sentence for the murder of his sister-in-law Maria Antonietta Masala, who was beaten to death with a hammer in Orosei in 2008 , Secci attacked his now ex-partner, Patrizia Dessì, leaving her on the brink of death.
A brutal beating, sparked by a jealous argument, ended with the woman admitted to intensive care. She survived only by chance.
For that attack, Secci was sentenced by the Court of Nuoro to 12 years in prison in the first instance (abbreviated trial), later reduced to 9 years and 4 months on appeal. On April 28, the Supreme Court of Cassation rejected the appeal and sealed the case: attempted murder. But the story doesn't end there.
Even behind bars, Secci didn't stop. From Bancali prison, he allegedly attempted to intimidate the woman who had managed to escape his murderous rage. He did so with a disturbing note, which, after the victim's name, included a clear warning: be careful, because she wouldn't enjoy the money he was demanding. The note was found during a search of another inmate, Giancarlo Fonnesu. According to the prosecution, Secci had entrusted it to him, instructing him to deliver it to Dessì. Fonnesu initially confirmed his claim, but later recanted, claiming he had found it in the courtyard. For this incident, the Sassari Court sentenced Secci to 2 months and 20 days, a sentence that has been appealed. The victim was represented by lawyer Milena Patteri, while Secci was represented by Federico Delitala.
