A 400-kilo calf was rescued by the Porto Torres firefighters after falling into an irrigation basin.

It happened this afternoon in the countryside of Porto Torres, where the Sassari Fire Brigade's Diving Unit intervened, together with colleagues from the Porto Torres detachment.

The animal had slipped into an irrigation tank over 4 meters deep. The calf, exhausted and in distress, was in danger of drowning. Despite the difficult accessibility of the area, the divers managed to keep her head above water and, using ropes, harnesses, and underwater lift bags, recovered the animal, transferring her to a safe area with the help of a farm vehicle.

Once she had regained her strength, the calf was helped to stand up and, once her good health was verified, she was returned to her owner and led back to the herd.
