Beautiful, and worth seeing. They used to wander between the road to the sea and the Feraxi lagoon, in Muravera. Tourists would stop to photograph them. They were the life of Antonio Cannas and his family of farmers. One hundred and ninety cows—almost all healthy and vaccinated—were culled because four of them were affected by bovine dermatitis .
The appeals of the Sarrabus municipal administrators and an entire community were to no avail. "We attended a meeting at the Prefecture," explains Muravera Tourism Councilor Matteo Plaisant , "asking for a halt to the demolition. They told us there was no way out . In fact, they intended to block the access roads to Feraxi as well. We opposed them; at least on that front, no progress was made."
The mayor of Castiadas, Eugenio Murgioni, had written to the Region and the Prefecture. "How can a law," he asked, "allow this? It's inhumane."
A letter signed by the Feraxi community reiterates that " the sacrificial lives of three families who loved and cared for these animals even during times of drought have been destroyed . It's hard to believe there could have been no alternative to such a radical decision."
