Sardinia's employment rate is among the lowest in Europe.
The photograph comes from new data released by Eurostat , relating to 2022.
The report highlights how all the regions of Southern Italy have employment rates below the EU minimums (i.e. lower than 63.3%), with Sardinia standing at 58.6% , ahead of Puglia (53.4 %) and Basilicata (57.3%), but behind Molise (58.8%) and Abruzzo 62.8%. But the worst data at a national level are those of Sicily, Calabria and Campania, where less than half of the population was employed in 2022. In detail: in Sicily 46.2%, in Calabria 47% and in Campania 47.3%.
It should be noted, however, that the Sardinian figure is growing by 1.6% compared to the previous survey: in 2021 the employment rate on the island was in fact at 57%.
All this while, underlines Eurostat, in 2022 the EU average employment rate reached its historic maximum, i.e. 74.6%.
But, as mentioned, the differences between the 242 regions of the Old Continent taken into consideration are notable. The best numbers are recorded in Northern Europe: the peaks in employment at a continental level are in fact recorded in the Finnish archipelago of Aland (89.7%), in the Dutch region of Utrecht (85.1%) and in the Swedish region of capital Stockholm (where it exceeds 85%).
"Scandinavian" exploit also in the district of the Polish capital Warsaw, which in 2022 recorded an employment rate of 85.4%.
