The first set started with three consecutive breaks, then it was the South American, credited with the third seed, who held his serve first to take a 3-1 lead. After canceling two set points, Musetti counter-attacked his opponent but, on the fourth occasion, Navone could serve for the set at 6-5. Having won the first set, the Argentine flies, while the Italian, number 2 on the scoreboard, concedes break points in every game and holds serve only in the first game. Then, there are six consecutive games for Navone, who can celebrate the victory.
«It was a very tough match. I was solid, working on every point. I think this match with Lorenzo is only the first of many matches we will have on the circuit", declared a satisfied Navone.
«He was better. I started out quite tense, contracted. I suffered breaks by serving badly, with few firsts and this didn't give me confidence", comments Musetti. «The first set was very hard fought, while the second slipped from my hands a bit. The compliments I gave Mariano on the pitch are truly sincere. He played his best tennis all week and he deserved to win."
