Lorenzo Sonego reigned supreme in Cagliari in the 2021 ATP 250 tournament, in the midst of the Covid era. And now he's trying again. "I'm coming back from an injury that kept me out for two months," he explained in the press room of the Sardegna Open Challenger 175 at the TC Cagliari, "so I'm slowly recovering. Barcelona was my first tournament, and I started training just the week before: I need to get back into the swing of things, to get back into matches. I'm training to try to find, let's say, my best self."

"I'm happy to be here in Italy because playing at home is a huge motivation for me," Sonego said. "I can't wait to get on the court tomorrow. I enjoy playing with the home crowd, so it will definitely be a great feeling, a great thrill. It's been a year since I played a tournament at home, so there's a chance to do so, and I couldn't wait to come here: I'll try to enjoy these feelings."

On the pitch against Mattia Bellucci : "It's definitely a very tough match. It's always difficult to play in derbies and against an Italian. Mattia is a unique player who has great technical and physical skills on the pitch. It'll be a tough battle, and I'll have to bring out the best in me to win the match."

Two goals: to recover and maybe even win: "In every tournament, you want to try to get to the end, but the priority right now is my recovery and the fact that I have to fit in matches and training, since I've been out of action for a while, so I need to be a little more patient and work to get back into shape. I'm doing it, so I'm happy, and then I'll take it one match at a time: I want to do well here. I've always had some great moments in this tournament, so I hope to relive them again."
