Matteo Arnaldi reaches the final of the Sardegna Open Challenger 175 in Cagliari. On Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Monte Urpinu Centre Court, the Italian will face Polish player Hubert Hurkacz , the former world number six, on the other side of the net.
In the first match of the day, Arnaldi defeated the tournament's surprise winner Gianluca Cadenasso in the third set (1-6, 6-1, 6-0). The Ligurian derby had started very well for Cadenasso: the Genoese did well to impose the pace and play, frequently forcing the Sanremo native into errors. And the match ended 6-1.
In the second set, Arnaldi found his feet and there was no contest: he quickly regained the initial 6-1 lead. The final set was easy: Arnaldi served, broke. And then served, broke again. A smash to end the match: not even a game for Cadenasso, 6-0.
In the other semifinal, Hurkacz took a serious risk (4-6, 7-6, 6-3) against Argentine Roman Burruchaga (son of world champion Jorge Burruchaga, who scored in the 1986 soccer final against Germany): the Pole, down a set, found himself at 4-5 in the second set with his opponent serving. But somehow he dragged the South American to a tie break and then to the third set. In the end, thanks in part to a strong start, he prevailed.
