An average pension check of about 1,240 euros, the lowest in Italy . This is the picture (bitter for Sardinia) that emerges from the XXIII Report of the INPS, presented today in Cagliari , in its Sardinian stage, in the Lai room of the Faculty of Economic, Legal and Political Sciences of the city university.
The labor market , while following the national trend with growing employment rates and low unemployment, is still struggling mainly for three reasons: the record ageing of the population, the record low birth rate and the lowest pensions in Italy .
The sore point, we were saying, is that of pensions, with an average check of 1,240 euros which is the lowest compared to the Italian average . In 2023 , 20,495 new pensions were paid out, those in force are approximately 425 thousand . As regards the gender of the beneficiaries, the incidence of social security benefits on the total paid out is greater for males than for females, with a gap that reaches 20% in Sardinia.
These statistics have been analyzed by experts from the University of Cagliari. "We know that Sardinia suffers from a problem of a major aging population and a low birth rate - explains Professor Giovanni Sulis - The problems of the labor market are therefore accentuated precisely because of our demographic structure which is very unbalanced towards the more mature age groups "
INPS director Di Bernardo reiterated that the institute "is working to best respond to the needs of workers and pensioners. Compared to a short time ago in Sardinia we have become much stronger. Today our performance has improved in terms of time : the average time to pay out a pension is one month. We have set out on a path of increasingly progressive efficiency: in two years we have gone from the bottom to the middle of the rankings".
Present at the event, among others, were the national and regional presidents of the Social Security Institute, Gabriele Fava and Francesco Ciro Di Bernardo, the vice-rector of the university, Gianni Fenu, and the central director of studies and research Gianfranco Santoro. The meeting was desired by INPS to meet the territories, listen to the proposals and take stock of the critical issues, seeking solutions.
