After the tail comes the head. Twelve years after the installation of the “Eel of Mars” conceived by the local artist Salvatore Garau, one of the most discussed contemporary works on the Island, the head will also be positioned.

Where is it? Not far from the town hall where the tail stands out, behind the town hall, in the large flowerbed close to the large mural dedicated to the fishermen. An event for the town: the work is dedicated to the pond of Santa Giusta, once the most full of eels.

«The work has been completed - explains the councilor for Public Works Pierpaolo Erbì -. In a very short time the workers will go into action for the construction of the concrete support base. The Municipality has entrusted the construction to the Edil Sarda Costruzioni di Marrubiu company, for an amount of just over 30 thousand euros, expenses borne by the administration ».

The head also weighs several tons, about three. Instead, it is 7 meters high. The eel's head was handmade by the craftsman Stefano Piga. For the construction of the work, the lagoon Municipality obtained a loan of 35 thousand euros from the Sardinia Foundation. In addition, it has allocated another 15 thousand euros from its budget.

The work is made up of two parts and has an open mouth biting into two Hellenic heads from the 2nd century BC In reality, however, these are two perfect copies of the young Satyr of Othoca, the archaeological find that had been discovered in the pond during underwater excavations of 2010.
