Free guided tours and extraordinary openings of the buildings of worship built between the end of the 10th and the 13th century. There will be over 60 Romanesque churches in Sardinia that will open their doors to visitors during the "Le Giornate del Romanico" event promoted by Italia Romanica, born from the union of three entities: the Sardinia Isola del Romanico Foundation, based in Santa Justa, which has 88 Sardinian municipalities in the network, the Lombardy Fondazione Lemine and the Sicilian Le Vie dei Tesori.
Sardinia led the way for other regions with the establishment of special days dedicated to the architecture of the Italian Middle Ages. The novelty of 2023 is the creation of a calendar that counts over 100 churches open free of charge and without reservation to visitors from Sardinia, Sicily and Lombardy, who in the three weekends of September and during the first Sunday of October will choose one of the towns or cities that will host this great event. The opening will be managed by each Municipality, which in some cases has planned collateral events linked to the territory.
In the long list there is also the suggestive church of Santa Chiara in Oristano, and the basilica of Santa Giusta. «It will be the great Romanesque festival in which everyone can take part for free - comments Antonello Figus, president of the Sardinia Isola del Romanico Foundation, former mayor of Santa Giusta - on the theme of the Romanesque heritage Sardinia has paved the way in the national field, we are proud and enthusiastic. We will continue to take action to ensure that this work continues on a long path, so that the network grows and the Romanesque has the right importance in Italy. The next step - he concludes - will be to broaden our reach and reach out to other European countries to work towards the rediscovery of this enormous heritage that the Church makes available to the faithful and visitors".
