The AngoLazioni exhibition returns to Sant'Anna Arresi , now in its fifth edition. The Municipality is preparing to become the epicenter of Mediterranean cinematography again this year, with stories and insights dedicated to the history of cinema. The artistic direction is by Mohamed Challouf. The program includes a trip to the Mediterranean through the cinema, three cine-concerts with silent films and dramas involving Sardinia, Tunisia and Naples.

The appointment is for Friday 8, Sunday 10 and Monday 11 September, with performances starting at 21, in the evocative location of Piazza del Nuraghe. The project is promoted by the Municipality of Sant'Anna Arresi, with the support of the Fondazione di Sardegna and of the Ras – Autonomous Region of Sardinia Assessorato PI BB. CC. and with the organizational coordination of the Association of Local Authorities for Cultural and Entertainment Activities.

«The film festival was born in 2019 as a moment of cultural growth. Every year, topical issues are addressed; there was talk of migration, the environment, the role of women and their vision of the world, peace - explains the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Sant'Anna Arresi Elisabetta Rossu -. Cinema is an extraordinary tool. The images, the protagonists, the music, the photography immediately communicate meanings and emotions that leave interpretation free, and allow the development of critical thinking and ideas. Ours is a town of about 2,700 souls, but over time it has become, thanks to the numerous cultural, theatrical, musical and arts events in general, a place open to exchange and welcoming. The AngoLazioni review builds a bridge over the Mediterranean and opens up to the South of the world, with the awareness that we are all always someone's South, it depends precisely on the angle from which we observe it».

Mohamed Challouf has been participating in the review since the first edition: first as a guest, and then taking over the reins of artistic direction. A profound connoisseur of cinema, in particular that linked to the Mediterranean world, for the past four editions of AngoLazioni has been making his professionalism available to create and organize the Sulcis festival. «AngoLazioni allows artistic and cultural works to circulate between the various Mediterranean countries, it is a moment and also a reason for dialogue in an era in which dialogue seems increasingly difficult, as demonstrated by the many wars taking place in the North and in the South of the world - comments the Artistic Director of AngoLazioni Mohamed Challouf -. And to explore what is happening in cinematography today, let's start from afar, from its origins, from silent cinema, with the singular proposal of film concerts».

«This year - he continues - the proposal is dedicated to Sardinia, Tunisia and Naples, with the fil rouge of women, the protagonist in all three films proposed. Women who seek emancipation, in the stories told, emancipated women, those who have worked in the proposed productions, as actresses, but also as co-directors and as screenwriters». Cinema therefore, but also literature, with a focus on the history of cinematography in Tunisia and an in-depth analysis of the relationship and cultural exchanges maintained over the last century between Tunisia and Italy, building on Roberto Rossellini's experience in Africa , resulting in the production of two films that are two works of art, such as 'The Acts of the Apostles' and 'The Messiah'.

At AngoLazioni there will also be room for music. In fact, the film concerts include musical interludes by real specialists of the genre: from the Mauro Palmas Trio to Francesca Badalini, from Marzouk Mejri to the duo Guido Sodo and François Laurent. Also in this case performers of various origins: Sardinians, Africans and Neapolitans. Improvisational music accompanied by singing, original notes that will complete the evenings in the context of a cultural ferment that tells how Sant'Anna Arresi and Sardinia as a whole do not want to turn away but want to fully understand current events and have own clear idea of the way to go.

In detail, the first evening, Friday 8 September, includes an appointment dedicated to the city of Naples, with the cine-concert of the film "Assunta Spina" and the musical accompaniment of Guido Sodo (singing and mandola) and François Laurent (acoustic guitar ). Second stage of the review on Sunday 10 September, with a tribute to the pioneer of Tunisian cinema and first filmmaker of all Africa Albert Samama Chikli and the screening of his film "Zohra", dated 1922; the musical accompaniment will be the work of Francesca Badalini on piano and Marzouk Mejri on percussion. Finally, on Monday 11 September, the third and last evening, dedicated to Sardinia, with the presentation of the film "Cainà" by Gennaro Righelli; the musical accompaniment will be by Mauro Palmas and his Trio.
