Salmo, the new album inspired by the “ranch” in Gallura. «I said no to X Factor and a million euros»
Another discographic chapter for Maurizio Pisciottu: «Forty years? A good time to take stock»A new chapter in the recording career of Maurizio Pisciottu, aka Salmo: it's called “Ranch” and is the result of a period spent rediscovering himself, alone, to rediscover creativity.
"The album came out practically by itself - explained the rapper from Olbia - because at that time I had other projects, including TV, a book and a soundtrack. For the TV series I was working on I had to play a character who isolated himself to face his demons. I did the same in my real life too". Inspiration for Salmo was his "ranch" in Gallura: "After 15 years I left Milan - he said - also because I experienced dangerous situations. I filmed the second season of the series "Gangs of Milano" and to get into character I isolated myself for a month in Turin: I went out alone at night, long beard... I looked like a madman. Then the isolation continued on the hills in Sardinia where only the friends I made music with came to visit me".
With a setlist of sixteen songs, from “On fire” and “Crudele” to “Mauri” and “Titoli di coda”, “Ranch" is a meeting made up of different rounds. «The singer-songwriter aspect - explained the voice of the new 'Sincero', 'Sangue amaro' and 'Cartine corte' - came out spontaneously and could be the beginning of something, a new path. I'm trying to evolve album after album and this time I didn't want just rap. I've wanted to do a song like 'Incapace' for years, guitar and voice. I was looking for a punk song because I'm not good at playing the guitar. I was interested in making people understand that, often, it's the intention that counts the most ».
It's a concept album, that of Salmo, who also confessed to having given up, years ago, the role of judge of X Factor (then covered by Sferaebbasta) despite a fee of one million euros offered: «In 2019 I did the auditions, I said harsh things that people liked, I also negotiated by being a bit of an asshole and asking for more and more but in the end I gave up: I knew that if a kid had hit me I would have cried on TV and it wasn't the time».
The album also comes with a sort of concept video, 16 visuals that tell a story set on a ranch. Not just any ranch, but the one built in Bulgaria for the filming of the latest chapter in the Rambo movie saga.
"Ranch is the safe place and the happy island that I looked for in my head - commented Salmo - in a particular moment of my life. I needed it to find creativity again. I played a lot with social media and at a certain point it started to weigh on me, so I left them. They are a brake on creativity". In the entire album there is only one collaboration and it is the one with Kaos on the notes of "Bye bye" . "The feat with Kaos is something I had to do - explained Salmo - because he inspired me more than anyone. As a kid I tried to react to shyness and when I saw a video of Neffa with Kaos, I understood that I wanted to rap and sing like that live. He was the first person who made me understand which path to take".
The new album will also be the protagonist of a tour that will kick off with the "Lebonsky park" event , scheduled for September 6 at Fiera Milano Live and which will then transform into a tour of the arenas and then again into the Salmo World Tour 2025 that will take the rapper-singer-songwriter to clubs, from Barcelona to Miami, passing through London, Paris, Berlin, Los Angeles, New York and other cities in the world. All of this, with a new look that Maurizio has exercised by looking from the windows of his 'Ranch', and not only towards the outside.
"Rather than looking around - Salmo said - I looked inside myself . Forty is a good time to take stock. Rap is an ego boost and makes you believe you're tough, instead I realized I'm a good person. I'm proud to be a good guy. Why should I pretend? Each of us could build our own ranch in our heads."
