Meo Sacchetti is no longer the coach of the men's basketball team . This was announced by the Italian Basketball Federation .

At the end of a meeting in Rome between the federal president, Gianni Petrucci, and the Apulian coach, the contractual agreement between the parties was resolved .
Sacchetti (former Dinamo manager) was in charge since September 2017 and led the national team for a total of 50 games . He should have remained in office until the European Championships in September ,   tournament that after 31 years will return to play also in Italy. The Azzurri are included in group C which includes Ukraine, Great Britain, Croatia, Estonia and Greece of Nba superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Just a week ago, in Milan, together with Petrucci, Sacchetti had ideally started the countdown for the continental appointment, starting from -100.

"The relationship was exhausted", instead Gianni Petrucci told Ansa today. As for the new coach, there are rumors of Gianmarco Pozzecco , also a former Dinamo. "I don't mention names - replies Petrucci - we'll make the announcement in a week ".

"It didn't depend on me and I didn't expect it." The now former coach of the national basketball team does not hide the bitterness: "My journey with Italbasket has ended, a second skin that I have always tried to best honor - writes Sacchetti on Twitter -. It did not depend on me and not I expected it. Thanks to my extraordinary players: we shared values and felt incredible emotions. Thanks to the staff and coach Messina ".
