The updating of the Statute, the revitalization of autonomy and self-government, the launch of a new constituent phase. These are just some of the points for reflection that emerged during the Regional Council's celebration of Sa die de Sa Sardigna , the day commemorating the expulsion of the Piedmontese from the island on April 28, 1794.
The proceedings in the Chamber were closed by the President of the Region , Alessandra Todde, who described the difficulties in exercising the prerogatives established by the special autonomy, which are "increasingly limited or restricted" .
For Todde, examples include "the many contested laws protecting Sardinia," "the intention to concentrate prisoners subject to Article 41 bis on the island ," and "the attempt to strip us of primary responsibilities ." But "there are also cases of collaboration with the state": the promotion of the Einstein Telescope, for example.
According to the President of the Assembly, Piero Comandini , "we must accelerate the path toward modernity, reclaiming our space in every sector, first and foremost—I will never tire of saying this—in our relations with the State. Starting with a revision of the Statute, which will lead us to full and concrete autonomy, we must strengthen our strong cultural identity , because Sardinia wants to become an increasingly strong island that combines its past, history, and culture with modernity."
Paolo Truzzu (FdI) delivered a polemical speech: "Today , Sardinia is missing its appointment with history. Today, we have the power if we want it, but if we don't want to exercise it, we're just firing blanks . Autonomy cannot be reduced to a post, a mere propaganda club brandished against the government of the day, all in the hope of gaining a few percentage points."
