A day to remember one of the “fathers” of the carnival in Marrubiu, but not only.

Tomorrow, “Sa Die de Su Pirata” will be dedicated to Gianfranco Spiga, affectionately known to all as “Su Pirata”. It was born from an idea of his daughter, Illary, to remember him one year after his passing. In joy, between music (he was also a percussionist in some local groups), good food, art, crafts and of course Carnival.

"My will - the daughter begins - was to reunite Marrubiu and spend a day in joy, in memory of dad. I liked the idea of reuniting the many people who loved my father in company, in the way he liked."

A point of reference for the entire community, especially during events that involved the community. “Su Pirata” was a member of the family for all the people of Marrubia. «The nickname – continues Illary – comes from my grandfather and from him it passed to dad. Grandpa was a fisherman and always went around with a bandana. Hence the name. Dad continued to be called that and I must say that it represented him at his best».

A great passion, woodworking, with which he left his mark in the country, like an artist. "His was a great passion - confirms his daughter - He sculpted and restored everything that was wood and it is a great feeling to wander around the historic center of Marrubiu and find so many small works that have his signature".

Among these "Su Marrulleri", a symbolic mask of the Marrubiese carnival, of which he was the protagonist and animator since its birth, in 1978. «He had also sculpted the mask - says Illary - which on one side has a sad face and on the other a smiling one. An idea born on the occasion of the first edition of our carnival and which is still present». Tomorrow "Sa die de Su Pirata».

A rich program. The start is at 3 pm, in Piazza Amsicora, with the preparatory meeting for the pirate costume parade of the children of the town, with the association “Is Giogus”. In the afternoon, the exhibition of local artisans and associations, then “Aperipirata” with DJs Alex Cestaro and Richy Biancu, followed by music by Michele Diana, Mirella&Max, Purple Bordeaux and The Dome. Also on display is a portrait of Salvatore Pani dedicated to “Su Pirata” and his historic bike in an artistic key created by Maria Jole Serreli. “I would like to thank the municipal administration, the Pro Loco and Diego Scanu for their collaboration. Each participant enthusiastically accepted the invitation and I think this is really beautiful”, concludes the daughter.
