Sardinia must remain united and face the challenges ahead, as it did in 1794 by chasing away the Piedmontese Viceroys and officials.
This is the appeal launched this morning, on the occasion of the celebrations in the Regional Council of Sa Die de Sa Sardigna, by the presidents of the Assembly and the Region Piero Comandini and Alessandra Todde. The first, at the opening of the proceedings, remembering the heroes of the «Sardinian revolution, Giommaria Angioy, Michele Obino and Francesco Cilloco», said that «today the unity of our people is fundamental in facing the dramatic moment that our Island is going through, but also Italy and the entire world».
The theme of this April 28, 2025 “Roots and Wings” , he added, «helps us reflect on who we are and where we come from. History and the teachings that come from the past are our roots from which we must start to “fly” towards the future».
Furthermore, "the Sardinia of the future must claim its space in every sector, first of all, I will never tire of saying it, in relations with the State. We must aim to resolve "historical" issues such as the revenue dispute, the language issue, the implementation of the Special Statute". President Alessandra Todde, recalling 1794, also explained that "when, as Sardinians, we unite, when we overcome divisions, when we overcome resignation and become aware of what we are, of our value, we succeed in missions that, shortly before, we ourselves thought impossible".
And now, in 2025, she asked herself, "what idea of Sardinia do we want to build, inspired by this great past but with an eye to the future?" And she spoke of "An island where being born into a poor family does not mean being condemned to having fewer opportunities", of a "Sardinia of cultural modernity" and "a protagonist of the Mediterranean and in Europe".
The celebrations of Sa Die de sa Sardigna in the Regional Council ended with the sound of the launeddas of Luca Schirru who sang the Sardinian anthem “Procurade 'e moderare”.
