The Regional Council has approved an additional investigation for the ex post Environmental Impact Assessment for the construction of new plants at the RWM factory (R140 Test Field and the new R200 and R210 departments of RWM Italia) between Domusnovas and Iglesias.
The Council – explains a note – «notes that the proposed resolution raises issues of particular relevance and with a strong economic, political, social, as well as technical and practical impact , which require careful examination by all the Councilors».
The Todde administration's move sparked immediate political reactions from the opposition.
"With a senseless and damaging decision, the Regional Council has chosen to block RWM Italia's investment through a supplementary investigation into the EIA, putting at risk not only the 500 existing jobs, but also the possibility of creating a further 250 in one of Sardinia's most disadvantaged areas, such as Sulcis Iglesiente," says Sardinian MP Gianni Lampis of the Brothers of Italy party.
"This," he adds, "is an ideological act that ignores the real needs of families and the local economy. Once again, the Regional Council demonstrates it doesn't care about the future of the Sardinians and prefers to sacrifice jobs and development on the altar of sterile political propaganda."
"While Giorgia Meloni's government is ready to support the region's productive revival," Lampis continues, "the Region is choosing to row against it, undermining Sardinia's credibility with investors and creating uncertainty among workers. This is shameful and irresponsible."
"Fratelli d'Italia," the MP concluded, "is and will remain at the side of workers, their families, and the businesses that choose to invest in Sardinia. We will not allow the shortsightedness of the Todde administration to condemn Sulcis Iglesiente and its citizens to a future of unemployment and marginalization."
