Antonio Gramsci lives on in Ghilarza, in his House Museum, which reopens with a renewed focus on younger generations and moments of reflection on current events. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by the president of the Gramsci Foundation, Caterina Pes, the regional councilor for culture, Ilaria Portas, the mayor of Ghilarza, Stefano Licheri, the director of the Gramsci Foundation of Rome, Francesco Giasi, the president of the Union of Municipalities of Guilcer, Serafino Oppo, the extraordinary administrator of the Province of Oristano, Battista Ghisu, and the curators and staff involved in reopening the space and promoting the figure of Antonio Gramsci, was a call to peace.
"We wanted to open today during the European Heritage Days to look back at the past and the future," says Pes. "And here we rediscover the young Gramsci, his family, his personal, human, and political experiences, but it is also a look at those who took on a vitally important civic commitment: defending everyone's rights, human dignity, and critical thinking. In this house, a network has developed, and it is a space that tells a story and opens to the future at the same time, including the new generations."
Councilor Portas echoed this sentiment, describing the reopening of the House Museum as an emotional and touching moment in this delicate historical period. This morning, screenings included the short films "Gramsci's Childhood and Youth" by Paolo Zucca and the Mira collective, "The Revolutionary" by Giuseppe Casu, and the video of the concert "Music and Freedom" by Paolo Fresu. The museum will open to the public on Monday, October 13th.
