The project to build a regasification plant in Portoscuso is being examined by the Environment and Productive Activities commissions of the Regional Council , meeting in joint session under the chairmanship of Piero Maieli (Psd'Az) and with the participation of the councilor for Industry Anita Pili.

"A project - reads a note from the same Council - on which the Municipality has for some time expressed a contrary position. But not for ideological reasons, the local administrators specified, but because, even from a technical point of view, it appears impracticable and it would aggravate the already difficult situation of the port ”.

According to the Municipality of Portoscuso, in fact, "the port area would not be practicable for gas tankers of that size , without a radical dredging of the seabed (it would be necessary to go down from the current 4 to 12 meters of draft) for which, in the face of an assumed cost exceeding 40 million, there is no financial coverage nor is the implementing body indicated. Furthermore, the mayor Ignazio Atzori and Deputy Mayor Giorgio Alimonda recalled that the port would also need other very substantial works (from 20 to 24 million), as regards the quay and service infrastructures ".

"It is true that local companies, such as Eurallumina and Sider Alloys, have a need for energy, the representatives of the Municipality acknowledged, but this problem can be solved with the construction of a small coastal deposit, certainly not with a mega plant that the end would determine a gas price level among the highest in Italy ”.

What is also worrying is the impact of the new plant on the safety and health of citizens , in an area that has already paid a very heavy price to industrial settlements, with large areas contaminated by the presence of heavy metals and not yet reclaimed.

At the end of the hearing, the commission then decided to start a cycle of hearings and to carry out an inspection in Portoscuso.
