The date of the referendum does not change.
The Council of Ministers has decided to confirm the consultation for March 22 and 23 , however integrating the question with the articles of the Constitution that are modified by the Justice reform which contains the separation of careers.
The original question read: "Do you approve the text of the constitutional law concerning 'Rules on the judicial system and the establishment of the Disciplinary Court' approved by Parliament and published in the Official Journal no. 253 of 30 October 2025?"
In the new wording, it becomes: "Do you approve the text of the law revising Articles 87, paragraph 10, 102, paragraph 1, 104, 105, 106, paragraph 3, 107, paragraph 1, and 110 of the Constitution approved by Parliament and published in the Official Journal of 30 October 2025 under the title 'Rules on the jurisdictional system and the establishment of the Disciplinary Court?'"
A unique case in the case of referendums: a change to the text has never occurred while the referendum campaign was already underway.
The Democratic Party is not having it: "First, they don't allow Parliament to exercise its function," writes Democratic MP and justice minister Debora Serracchiani, "then they set a referendum date without respecting the signatures collected by over 500,000 Italian citizens. Then they are forced to change the referendum question without moving the scheduled referendum date, with the usual overbearing arrogance of those who command but do not govern. Now there are also accusations that the judiciary has simply done its job by enforcing the law, while complaining about its bias. Once again, the line of arrogance and disrespect for institutions prevails. Another good reason to vote no ."
