The primaries of the Democratic Party should be held on March 12 to elect the new secretary. The goal, said Enrico Letta in his report to the leadership of the al Nazareno party, is “in January to draw up a manifesto of values and principles and to ensure that, immediately afterwards, there will be discussions to vote for candidates. Two of them will go to the primary, which can be held on a date that I imagined is March 12 ”.

Applications to the national secretariat "must be submitted by January 28, 2023" , while the national constituent process "will start with an appeal to participate on November 7, 2022".

The winning congress - said the secretary - is one in which you don't already know who will win it, it has never happened between us . In all the congresses, when we started we already knew who had won and the challengers did it to hold a flag of position ”.

ATTACKS ON RENZI AND MELONI

“We will always be available to coordinate with the other oppositions, but not to be made fun of or to chase those who have other agendas, that part of the opposition that has already moved its tents alongside the majority. Whoever makes an opposition speech and spends 3/4 of the time speaking ill of the opposition, I think it is a crutch of the majority ”, said Letta, a clear reference to Matteo Renzi's declaration of vote in the Senate.

The dem secretary also raised all his doubts about Giorgia Meloni's moderate turn: “I smile when I read about a pro-European and Atlanticist Meloni, I don't see it anywhere . In the reruns, Meloni's Europe came out, which is the meeting between nations that share some things but who have no intention of sharing them to the point of voting by majority and without the right of veto, this applies to the energy issue migratory ".
