FS CEO Stefano Donnarumma will "close the most important files before resigning" in the coming days, sources at the Ministry of Transport (MIT) announced after a meeting with Matteo Salvini.

"Salvini," the ministry stated, "thanked the CEO for his work and the over 90,000 FS employees who perform an essential role every day. Both agree that the mandate should conclude ahead of schedule to launch the company's phase two, having successfully completed the NRRP objectives, with a person chosen from within the company as its head."

According to various press reports, the operational leadership of FS could be entrusted to the current CEO and General Manager of Trenitalia, Gianpiero Strisciuglio. Two days ago, Donnarumma and the heads of the FS group's operating companies met with the Minister of Transport to discuss infrastructure projects, PNRR targets, service quality, and solutions to the disruptions of recent months. However, rumors have repeatedly highlighted differences in management with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the group's controlling shareholder. These discussions specifically address the issue of delays and the numerous works on the railway network.
