A book dedicated to workers who have lost their lives on the job. It's titled "Working to Death" and was written by a former worker. Gianni Mereu is now retired but entered the workforce when he was twelve.
With his work, Edizioni Croce wanted to make a contribution to this unfortunately ever-present theme : "April 28th is World Day for Safety and Health at Work, to promote the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases. Mine," he explains, "is the small contribution of a worker who finds it intolerable to die while working or to remain seriously injured for life."
The narrative unfolds in poetic form. "The protagonists," he explains, "are the victims of work themselves, who recount their stories, their work, and their tragic end, using the communicative power of poetic language. A sort of 'Workers' Spoon River Anthology.'"
