Macchiareddu? In Sulcis. And when someone points out the mistake: "It was the staff."
There's a collateral controversy (but not much) surrounding the announced resolution of the Bekaert dispute in Assemini, with 150 employees at risk of losing their jobs. It was sparked by a post by Labor Councilor Desirè Manca, who praised the Region's work but misinterpreted the company's location in Sardinia. The former Regional Council President, Lega Nord member Michele Pais, highlighted the geographical blunder. The councilor (or her staff) are scrambling to address the issue. But the patch appears to be worse than the hole.
The good news came from the discussion table where the employment crisis affecting the company, located in the industrial area of Macchiareddu, then Assemini, and then the outskirts of Cagliari, was addressed: from the brink of closure, the company has moved on to a proposed acquisition by Nuova Icom, which not only assures it intends to retain the 150 employees, but also announces another fifty hires.
Statements of satisfaction have multiplied: from unions, Minister Urso. And even Desiré Manca. As often happens, he used his Five Star Movement profile to make the announcement: "From the early stages of the Bekaert dispute, the Region's political will has been clearly oriented towards ensuring maximum protection for the 150 workers at risk of layoffs," Manca wrote. " The process is now entering a decisive phase. The Region will present the methods it intends to use to support the operation and the industrial plan. Time is tight: the acquisition of the plant by Nuova Icom will be formalized on October 15th. And I'm happy." A smiling photo follows, accompanied by jubilant comments. Among them, one user asking where the jobs were saved. The councilor's response: "In Sulcis." But Macchiareddu has nothing to do with Sulcis.
"We've reached this incredible point," Pais comments, sharing a screenshot of the exchange. "It may make you smile, but it's truly serious, coming from a Sardinian regional councilor. Especially for the struggling businesses in Sulcis, who now know for certain that no one even knows where they are. For goodness sake."
Missing for some time, he's engaged in a long-distance duel with Pais. And he reads his posts. So much so that after a while, he doesn't delete the incorrect answer, but adds: " I'm not changing the answer. This way, the error can also be seen. The answer given by the staff is incorrect. The plant is located in the industrial area of Macchiareddu, Cagliari."
Pais doesn't budge an inch. And he reiterates: " The councilor's classic method: the credit," he writes, "always falls to him, but the blame for when things don't go well always falls to others. We see it in healthcare, with the San Martino hospital, etc. Now, something completely new: the blame lies with the staff. At this point, they seem to be editing the responses on his personal profile, without his knowledge. He's always said and made people believe the opposite."
So, after Desire 1 and Desirè 2, we also have Desirè 3 (the staff)».
