The new documentary by Sardinian-Australian director Lisa Camillo "The Sardinian factory of death", "The Sardinian factory of death", is released on Al Jazeera for the series “Close Up” (also available online).

A heartfelt story of the citizens' committee fighting to ask for the conversion of the Rwm bomb factory in Domusnovas owned by the German Rheinmetall.

Lisa Camillo has already signed the award-winning feature film "Balentes - The Courageous", released in Australian cinemas and now available on some streaming platforms.

During the 12 minutes of the docu-film, some spokespersons of the Committee for the conversion of the factory are interviewed, defined in the presentation as "a group of brave people". Among the issues touched upon not only the war, with lots of reference to the words of Pope Francis who asked for a stop to the manufacture of weapons, but also the future of the workers of the Domusnovas plant and of the Sulcis area.

The film opens with a shocking image that divides the screen in two: on one side a beach on the Sardinian coast in summer, on the other a child who enters the sea in Yemen in war. The juxtaposition between weapons produced in Italy and the war in the Middle East was also made by the New York Times in a 2017 report.

The Italian government had blocked the 2016 and 2018 licenses for the export of aircraft bombs to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates after several controversies over the bombings in Yemen. The Council of State also recently stopped expanding the factory in Sardinia: a procedure that will have to start from scratch.

"The hearts of the Sardinians should oppose this destruction - warns the director - they should fight to regain possession of their land, they should say enough. I did it, I received several threats, but I never stopped or stopped".
