Confagricoltura Sardegna has launched an appeal to the Region: "Immediately activate a permanent table for the management of animal diseases and calamities that affect our crops".

The trade association said it was concerned after the numerous infections caused by the Blue Tongue and the invasion of grasshoppers in some areas of the island.

"The picture of enormous suffering in which the world of the regional countryside finds itself today - declared the president of Confagricoltura Sardegna, Paolo Mele - is due to a lack of planning of preventive interventions that oblige us to chase problems and spend huge resources from the public coffers ".

"If on the one hand, on the side of the Blue Language, we were faced with a delay, in the manner and timing, of the start of the vaccination campaign, on the other hand the extent of the new hatching of the grasshoppers was underestimated. mowed the fields destroying pastures and future forage reserves of farmers, "he added.

"This situation is the consequence of a careless evaluation of the phenomena that were developing in some territories of the island. If we had intervened quickly with sanitary cordons, isolation and containment of the realities at risk and with the utmost precaution in the movement of animals, the Today's picture would certainly be different. In the meetings held this summer with the regional offices it was said to start already in the autumn with a strong vaccination and disinfestation campaign, but to date we have not yet been informed of any upcoming interventions in the construction site ", concluded Mele.

Confagricoltura Sardegna also asks to access the studies and experiments that the Laore Sardegna regional agency had carried out in the past to intervene on the containment of the circulation of the culicoid, the vector insect of the Blue tongue.
